What I ALWAYS carry in my purse!

Being a mommy of 3 beautiful girls can be hectic if I'm not organized. When I'm on the go with my little ones, I can not live without these items:

Hair ties!
Me & 3 girls, enough said!

Yes, I get hungry when I'm driving all day in this Texas weather! Must be prepared with a mommy snack! These are my favorite!

These are for my little ones. I usually have them share one if they need a snack to get them through our errands!

All mommies need sanitizing wipes for little dirty hands! I like that these do not have that strong chemical order & super easy to carry in individual packs.

These come in handy all the time!

I always carry food for my 8 month old.

Reusable water bottle! It's important to stay hydrated!

Even when I know I will not need an umbrella stroller, I always have it in the car! Chances are I'm going to need it when I don't have it.

I always have to have this in my purse! Its important to have the little ones protected.

This is what I always have on me when we go out. Depending on the errands & time, I might add some things and of course I carry a separate diaper bag with other essentials, but I though I would share at least what I always use.

Let me know know what your essentials are!

10 Ways to Prepare your Child for Preschool

August is around the corner and for many parents it means sending their child to school for the first time.

When a child attends school, it closes the toddler stage and opens the world of independence. Although this milestone is very rewarding for both parents and child, it could also be very stressful. This is especially true for stay at home parents and children that have never attended daycare or school.

My daughter will be attending Preschool in the Fall, we are all very excited, but she has never been in care of a "stranger". So this transition is going to be difficult. So, I decided to come up with this list of 10 ways we can get our children ready for this exciting new stage.

1. During the summer months start telling your little one how exciting school is. There's a cafeteria, a library and other kids her/his age that are going to be ready to learn and play with him/her.

2. Take your child with you when you buy school supplies. Encourage them to help you pick their backpack, pencils and nap mat.

3. Drive by the school your child will be attending and let them know how close it is to home or how easy it is to get there.

4. Reassure your child that the teacher will take good care of all the students and that you will call/email the teacher for any concerns.

5. Review over general rules, such as staying in your seat, raising your hand, potty brakes, being respectful, listening to teacher, etc.

6. Remind them how proud you are of him/she being a big boy/girl and that you can not wait to help with their homework and projects.

7. Let them know who will be dropping them off and picking them up from school.

8. Read a book with a school theme.

9. Start planning your childs BEDTIME and start practicing it no later than July! I can't stress this enough, because it is very important for little ones to get enough sleep.

10. Ask your child for two reasons why they are so excited to start school and answer any questions or concerns they have with a smile and positive tone!

The first day of school will be difficult, but if both parents and children start talking about it and start getting excited about school it might make a difference. Your child will know what to expect and they will see how involved and interested you are about school.

Comment if you have any other suggestions!

The Super Slim 24H Liquid Eyeliner by L'OREAL

I am super excited to do my first makeup review!

I purchased this L'oreal Super Slim liquid eyeliner at a drugstore for about $7.

Facts/Claim
  • skip-proof
  • drag-proof
  • smudge-proof
  • It is .04mm Precise felt tip
  • Shade: 400 Black

This is how it looks right after I applied it. So far I am loving it, very easy to use and very thin. It did not smear when I opened my eyes, dried very fast.

It is around 11am. I will check back at the end of the day and see how it held up!

It is 10pm:

As you can see I have a little bit of mascara running under my eyes, but the eyeliner is intact! It did not smear anywhere. It held up good and I am defiantly going to start using this eyeliner daily! Especially since it passed the Texas heat "Test"!

Thanks!

How do you talk to your kids about MEAN & SPOILED children?

Well of course as parents we are not going to use these words, it will make us just as bad as the parent that watches his child hurt another kid and does nothing!

Yesterday my little ones were playing in our friend's pool. They seemed to be getting along and having fun with all the other guests. A girl about 6 or 7 arrived and she very kindly asked my daughter if she could barrow her arm floats and she'll give them back. Of course my daughter said yes (please note that she is learning how to swim and she is terrified of the water), but as a kind-hearted child she agreed. After about half hour, she realized she wanted them back because she was not having fun since she could not swim. She approached the other girl (that could swim) and asked if she could have them back, the response she got? NO!!

She then continued to tell my daughter that she should know how to swim that all big-kids know how to and that she should not be afraid. All of this was said in a mean manner, sort of like mocking her. So when she came and told me all this, I was mad and mostly because HER mom was their in the pool watching all this happen. My daughter asked me why are kids so mean, how come her mom doesn't tell her anything and why is she in the pool if she doesn't deserve it.

As a mom that hates to see her child upset, I wanted to tell her because her MOM doesn't care and is not raising her with manners! She is spoiled rotten and unless she gets some discipline she will not succeed in life.
Instead, I got down to my knees and told her the following: "Sometimes other children may be a little different than us, and that's OK. Some mommies try their best to teach them good manners, but their children  might not understand. We should not let them hurt our feelings and all we have to do is simply say Ok, and walk away. Play with other kids and leave the mean kids alone, ignore them. You are doing very well in learning how to swim and not be afraid of the water, I'm so proud of you!"

Of course we never think about these things before hand, we don't carry a book that says "In case this happens, here's what to say" (although it would be nice!). I'm sure I could have worded everything differently or taken a different approach, but I know that my daughter understood me and at the same time I did not fall into the well-go-tell-her-something-mean-also type.

We ended up having so much fun and she had forgotten by the end of the night!

Children and Chores

Children and Chores

I became a little overwhelmed yesterday by the "stuff" that easily accumulates in the house. My sink lasts about 5 minutes clean before it gets filled by the dirty-dish fairy. Laundry is never ending and no matter how many times I clean the table it always ends up with "stuff". So I decided to be more strict on what chores I'm going to start giving my little ones. I don't expect them to clean the restroom or mop, but teaching them how to help is a good start.

I left a big pile of their clothes in the couch before leaving to work. I explained what clothes needed to be hanged and what could be folded. I left enough hangers and advise them it had to be done by the time mommy got home. Obviously I didn't expect it to be perfect, but I wanted to see effort and responsibility. I got home and inspected their room. Yes! everything was nicely folded and hanged. My 7 and 4 year old daughters managed to help me!

I think it is very important to have children participate in household chores. As parents we have to teach our kids to be responsible and organized. It could get overwhelming at times, and I know its just better if we hurry and do it ourselves, but we need to be patient and guide our children. At school children are expected to clean after themselves and be responsible for their  belongings, it should be no different at home.

B.F.Skinner discovered Operant Conditioning, which means how we can change behavior by using reinforcement. In his research he applied the term  positive reinforcements (McLeod, S. A, 2007).
Applying this term to children, a reinforcement is a consequence that will determine if the behavior will occur again. In other words, if we give a child a positive reinforcement for a behavior, they will most likely do it again. Now, it doesn't mean to take your child to toysrus every time they clean their room or pick up their plate. It simply states that a simple "wow! what an excellent job you did!" will suffice for the child to get the message that he or she can be praised my their parents for doing as expected. I think positive reinforcement plays a huge role on the behavior we want from our children and if used correctly we can raise them to be obedient. When I saw all the clothes where they should be, I immediately told my daughters how proud and happy I was with them.
